Manchester United are favourites to sign Juventus star Gleison Bremer among the Premier League clubs, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Red Devils are likely to spend big on a marquee centre-back this summer and have identified Bremer as one of their prime targets.
The club have been monitoring him for some time, and he could be available for around €60 million.
Gazzetta dello Sport (page 2) now claim that Premier League clubs are pressing to sign him and United are currently ‘in the lead’ for his services.
Raphael Varane has been one of United’s main central defenders over the past three years, but he could leave when his contract expires on June 30.
The club have decided against an extension clause in his contract, considering he is the second-highest earner. No talks are planned on fresh terms.
With Varane likely to head for the exit door, manager Erik ten Hag may prefer a ready-made replacement over an emerging star with room to develop.
Bremer would be an ideal candidate, having proved his credentials with the Bianconeri.
The Brazilian ace is a good ball-playing centre-back with a strong aerial and physical presence. He is good in tackles, ball recoveries and likes to clear his lines.
His all-round defensive attributes would make him a quality signing. The Bianconeri are willing to part ways with him for a ‘convincing offer‘ this summer.
The club are eyeing a transfer fee of €60m, but United could prise him away for around €50m up front with the remaining in performance-based add-ons.
Bremer, who has been described as an ‘exceptional’ star by Juventus legend Sergio Brio, has previously spoken about his dream of playing in the Premier League.
