Manchester United are reportedly following Eintracht Frankfurt youngster Hugo Larsson with great interest as they prepare to revamp their midfield next summer.
The Red Devils are set to part ways with Christian Eriksen who is running on an expiring contract. The Denmark international joined the club in the summer of 2022 under the orders of Erik ten Hag, but his playing time vastly decreased since the arrival of Ruben Amorim in November.
At the age of 32, the former Spurs and Inter Milan isn’t terribly old, but he’s been looking out of his depth at times, and even his countryman Peter Schmeichel believes he’s struggling to cope with the pacey nature of the Premier League. The legendary goalkeeper thus advises the midfielder to rejoin Ajax once his contract with Man Utd expires at the end of the season.

With Eriksen and his lucrative wages off the books, the Premier League giants will be looking to bring in a younger replacement, so they could turn to another Scandinavian in the shape of Larsson, reveals Manchester Evening News. The 20-year-old is a deep-lying playmaker who’s making waves in the Bundesliga.
The Sweden international started his career at Malmo before joining Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2023. He has now cemented himself as a regular starter at the German club. This season, he has made 30 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals and providing one assist. While he only cost Eintracht €9 million, he could now command a transfer fee in the region of £50 million.
Larsson enjoys playing deep in the middle of the park and helping bring the ball forward, so he’s been dubbed a ‘Declan Rice clone’, and has curiously been linked with a move to Arsenal.
