Manchester United are reportedly willing to test Barcelona’s resolve with a substantial offer for Fermin Lopez.
The 22-year-old is a product of Barca’s famous La Masia academy and has been a member of the first team since the summer of 2023. The young man has already won several trophies with the Blaugrana, including the LaLiga title and the Copa del Rey. He was also part of the Spanish national team that clinched the Euro 2024 trophy.
But despite his noticeable impact and important contribution, the Spaniard has yet to cement himself as a regular starter at Barcelona, mainly due to the abundance of talent at Hansi Flick’s disposal, which includes Pedri, Gavi, Dani Olmo and Frenkie de Jong.
According to the Catalan newspaper and website Sport, Man United are looking to seize the opportunity to snatch the services of the Euro 2024 winner.
This isn’t the first time that the Premier League giants are linked with Lopez, as they had already considered signing him last summer, according to reports.

As the source tells it, the Red Devils have already signed Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, but they’re still planning to add another four players. While the report doesn’t specify these positions, one would imagine that the other roles in question are the centre-forward, central midfield and the goalkeeper.
Sport adds that Barcelona and Fermin would like to prolong their collaboration, but Man Utd are hoping to sway the Catalans with a transfer worth £61 million, which would ease their financial troubles, while tempting the player by doubling his salary.
However, it should be noted that United have already spent around £130 million on two new attacking midfielders this summer, so one would imagine that the rest of the transfer kitty will be allocated to other departments.
Fermin is a ‘greatly underestimated’ workhorse, as Lazio star Pedro Rodriguez once described him, so he might be able to adjust to other roles. Nevertheless, Ruben Amorim will likely prioritise other profiles, ones deemed more natural to the required roles.
