In what could prove a dramatic twist in the summer transfer window, Manchester United have reportedly been offered the opportunity to sign Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sané on a free transfer. As Fussball Transfers first reported, the German international’s future has become uncertain amid contract tensions with Bayern Munich, and several top clubs – including United – are monitoring the situation closely.
This revelation comes at a time when Ruben Amorim, United’s under-fire manager, is under significant pressure to revitalise a misfiring squad. The Red Devils are languishing dangerously close to the relegation zone in the Premier League, and although a Europa League final clash with Tottenham offers a potential lifeline, the broader picture remains bleak.
According to Fussball Transfers, Bayern Munich had expected Sané to agree a contract renewal on reduced terms. However, the situation has shifted dramatically since the 29-year-old appointed super-agent Pini Zahavi to handle negotiations. The German outlet reported: “Things have become more turbulent” with Zahavi now making “new demands” which Bayern are unwilling to accommodate.
Bayern are reportedly growing impatient and “want clarity by the end of the week”, with Fussball Transfers describing the saga as “the poker game is becoming increasingly tense.”

For Manchester United, the timing of this offer could not be more ideal. With Marcus Rashford on loan at Aston Villa and Antony struggling to impress at Real Betis, Amorim is in desperate need of reliable options out wide. Sané, who has been described by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann as “a world-class player”, represents a player of proven pedigree and immense quality.
Sané’s CV is nothing short of impressive. During his time at Manchester City, he won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and three EFL Cups. Since moving to Bayern Munich in 2020 for £44.7 million, the winger has continued his winning streak, claiming four Bundesliga titles and notching up 61 goals and 55 assists in 219 appearances.
At 29, he still has several years of top-level football ahead of him. His familiarity with the pace and physicality of English football is an added bonus. Importantly, his availability on a free transfer removes the financial risk that typically accompanies high-profile signings.
Ruben Amorim’s tenure at Old Trafford has so far failed to live up to the expectations. A disjointed domestic campaign and persistent questions around squad depth have left fans restless. With an overhaul expected regardless of European qualification, Sané could be the marquee addition that reignites hope.
Fussball Transfers confirmed United are one of five clubs that have been “offered the chance to sign Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sané on a free transfer.” Amorim, who has struggled to impose a cohesive style, would likely welcome a player of Sané’s directness and flair.
As Bayern grow increasingly frustrated with Zahavi’s hardline stance, the door appears to be creaking open for interested parties. Fussball Transfers’ use of the term “the poker game is becoming increasingly tense” signals that Sané’s future may be decided in a matter of days.
For Manchester United, this could be the perfect time to act swiftly and decisively. Sané would not only strengthen a weak flank but would send a strong signal that United remain capable of attracting elite talent despite their current struggles.
There’s no denying it: this is the kind of rumour that gets your pulse racing as a Manchester United fan.
Leroy Sané, a proven match-winner with bags of pace, creativity, and that explosive left foot—on a free transfer? That’s exactly the kind of statement signing we’ve been crying out for under Amorim. Let’s be honest, it’s been grim watching us labour in attack this season. Wide areas have looked toothless, and we’ve lacked the kind of player who can produce something out of nothing. Sané is that player.
Yes, there’s baggage. There’s talk of contract drama and big demands from Zahavi, but if United can sell Sané on the project (Europa League final or not), then it’s a no-brainer. His familiarity with the Premier League, his experience in winning trophies, and the fact that he’s still only 29 – it’s a dream scenario for a club that needs an injection of quality now.
If Amorim is serious about reshaping this squad, Sané could be the lynchpin of that transformation. Fingers crossed the Glazers don’t fumble this one.
