Manchester United could be set to receive a significant financial boost thanks to their former player, Anthony Elanga.
The 23-year-old is a MUFC academy product who had to leave the club in search of a prominent role after struggling for space during Erik ten Hag’s first season at Old Trafford. The Swede ended up signing for Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2023 on a deal worth circa £15 million.
Last season, Elanga played an instrumental role in the club’s Champions League push. Although Nuno Espirito Santo’s men had to settle for a place in the Conference League after losing their steam in the final weeks, it remains an incredible campaign for the team, and certainly one to remember for the former Man Utd winger who contributed with 6 goals and 11 assists in his 38 EPL appearances.

In the end, Elanga’s exploits didn’t go unnoticed, as Fabrizio Romano reveals that Newcastle have launched a major onslaught to secure his services. While Forest have yet to respond, this offer could prove too tempting to resist.
This potential deal would also have a major impact on Man Utd who had reportedly reserved themselves a 15% sell-on fee when they sold Elanga to Forest.
Therefore, if Newcastle manage to sign the Swede for £55 million, a figure of circa £8 million would head to the Red Devils.
This unexpected windfall would prove to be a timely boost for the Red Devils who have yet to unlock the Bryan Mbeumo deal, despite presenting Brentford with a new and improved offer.
Nevertheless, with eight more million in the coffers, INEOS might finally have the resources to make one final push which could prove to be decisive, and finally bring the 25-year-old Cameroonian to Old Trafford.
While many in the fanbase are still rueing the hasty sale of Elanga, perhaps his potential role in unlocking Mbeumo would soften the blow.
