Ruben Amorim’s appointment as manager of Manchester United has multiple ramifications for Liverpool as well as their (not-so) fierce rivals.

And not just what they might pose on the pitch. Liverpool have recently been linked to multiple players at Amorim’s now-former club Sporting Lisbon, as well as both clubs having similar transfer targets for the upcoming windows.

However, a new report in The Telegraph suggests that Manchester United’s upcoming transfer budget isn’t expected to be at competitive levels.

“Ruben Amorim is set to operate on a more modest budget to Erik ten Hag at Manchester United and will be tasked with maximising the untapped potential in the squad,” writes James Ducker, “as the club aim to end the damaging and costly cycle of mass overhauls.”

This boosts Liverpool’s chances on multiple fronts. The first would be regarding Sporting’s star striker Viktor Gyokeres, with rumours linking him to Manchester United emerging as soon as it appeared Amorim would become their coach.

Rumours linking Gyokeres and Liverpool, however, date back months. The Swedish international is arguably the best striker in the world right now, notching 16 league goals in 11 games and adding 5 in the Champions League, including a hat-trick in their 4-1 demolition of Manchester City.
