Pep Guardiola’s side look for two wins from two

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will be wary of Tottenham’s fine record against his side as the two clubs face off this weekend.

Pep Guardiola’s side dismantled Wolves 4-0 in their opening game of the season, with Erling Haaland scoring twice and Tijjani Reijnders impressing on his competitive debut following his summer move from AC Milan. Meanwhile, Spurs defeated Burnley 3-0 at home.

City emerged victorious the last time these two sides met, edging Tottenham 1-0 in a Premier League clash in February 2025, with Haaland on the scoresheet for the visitors.

However, historically, City have struggled against the north London side, winning just four of their last 12 Premier League encounters, drawing twice and losing six, including a 4-0 home defeat in the same fixture last season.

City face a few injury concerns ahead of the game.

Guardiola is expected to provide updates on Phil Foden and Rodri in his pre-match press conference on Friday, after suggesting both were close to returning for the Wolves match.

Josko Gvardiol, who missed the trip to Molineux, is also likely to be discussed.

Savinho missed the trip to Wolves after sustaining an injury in City’s final pre-season match. The City boss is expected to provide an update on the Brazilian, who has also been linked with a potential departure from the Etihad.

Mateo Kovacic remains a long-term absentee, recovering from an Achilles injury that is expected to keep him out until at least September.

James Trafford is expected to retain his place as City’s goalkeeping situation continues to evolve. Ederson missed the Wolves game due to injury and has since been linked with a move to Galatasaray, while City have been linked with signing the exiled Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG.

Man City predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Trafford; Lewis, Stones, Dias, Ait-Nouri; Nico Gonzalez, Silva, Reijnders; Doku, Bobb; Haaland

Doubts: Foden, Rodri, Gvardiol, Ederson, Savinho
