Major new appointment ends Rangers rumours for good | OneFootball

It might not specifically be Rangers, but ex-manager Michael Beale’s appointment at Al-Ettifaq under Steven Gerrard as his new assistant offers a lot of points to consider for Rangers fans, and Ibrox Noise now looks at what this all means.

The first big one is these two have worked well together – while it took the pair two years to suss the Scottish Premiership out, they did manage to do it, and they secured 56 at the third time of asking, having spent £35M.

It must also be remembered that all Rangers’ valuable sales of the past two+ years (Patterson, Bassey, Aribo) all joined the club under Gerrard and Beale, and they were a combined cost of £300,000. Sold for £46M. Not a bad profit.

So there is every chance Beale under Gerrard again will get Al-Ettifaq going again – albeit, it didn’t work at Villa and the pair of them crashed and bombed completely.

Next, and possibly a very significant one pertaining to Rangers – it ends any tenuous rumours that Gerrard could return to Rangers as manager – this appointment is designed to turn his Arabian club’s fortunes around, and he clearly wants to be there. He wants to be a success and bringing Beale back may smack slightly of mild desperation but it is a commitment and a combo that works.

Then we have Beale himself. Out of work since being fired by Sunderland, following his mutual consent exit at Rangers, the man’s ambitions outweighed his abilities, and he’s just not the right material for management. Ibrox Noise has said this before – he makes a good assistant, but not a good manager.

He now knows this himself – his ambitions were all about being a manager, but he couldn’t cope with either gig he got, and left ignominiously both times. But as assistant he can ‘manage’ while it’s Gerrard who makes the final calls.

A decent, nay, good assistant but a terrible manager, and he has clearly settled for that role now.

Any grudge or bad feeling we had about Beale has gone, ditto Gerrard – life and work happens, things change, and both left Rangers under a cloud. Join the club these days!
