Quoted by the Mainzer Allgemeine Zeitung, Mainz 05 head coach Bo Henriksen was quick to quash rumors that he wishes to bring Borussia Möchengladbach’s Oscar Fraulo into his team. At a Rheinhessen summer training session, Henriksen denied that he was targeting his former Midtjylland player. Henriksen and his staff have other plans for the midfield.
“I don’t think he’s an option,” Henriksen told the local paper. “We’re looking for a number 10. He’s more of a number 8 or 6.”
With his statements, Henriksen made clear that he sought an attacking midfielder to serve above Kaishu Sano and Nadiem Amiri. The summer procurement of Union Berlin striker Benedict Hollerbach to replace the departed Jonathan Burkardt isn’t exactly a like-for-like swap as Hollerbach is more of a lane forward who often slants left.
One might surmise that Henriksen perhaps prefers a 3-4-1-2 tactical set up ahead of the new campaign. Fraulo himself may get a shot in Gladbach’s midfield due to some projected summer departures. BMG sporting director Roland Virkus has often stated that his club still believes in the Danish U21 international.
