Manchester United fell to their 16th defeat of the Premier League season, as they were beaten 4-3 by Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

United took the lead in the 14th minute through Mason Mount, who got on the end of a low cross from Alejandro Garnacho to tap the ball into the back of the net.

The advantage didn’t last for too long as Luke Shaw turned the ball into the back of his own net from a Brentford long throw. Brenford then took full control of the game, as Kevin Schade scored again before the interval.

Schade grabbed his brace in the second half, to all but secure the three points for his side.

Yoane Wissa added a fourth before Garnacho fired home a second for United. Substitute Amad then got on the score sheet in stoppage time to make it 4-3, but it was a tad bit too late for the Red Devils to mount a comeback.

The result has seen United drop down one place to 15th place in the Premier League table.

Several United players didn’t show up, including Shaw, who captained the Red Devils in the absence of Bruno Fernandes.

Shaw was taken off during the break. Aside from the own goal, Shaw failed to produce a block or an interception.

The England international contributed just one tackle. He won the one ground duel he delved into but lost both aerial duels he vied for.

The 29-year-old lost the ball six times. He successfully found his teammates with 19 of the 24 passes he attempted (79% pass accuracy) and only managed to connect with one of the three long balls he pinged.

Shaw did not aim even one cross.

It was another poor performance from the defender, who just hasn’t looked like himself since returning from a lengthy injury lay-off.

United are back in action on Thursday when they host Athletic Club in the second leg of their Europa League semi-final tie The Red Devils currently have a 3-0 aggregate lead.
