Born in 1997, Luke McCowan has seen many league titles won as a Celtic fan, after all there have been 20 in his 27 years on the planet.

However, every fan’s dream is to experience that feeling as a player, live the moment on the pitch at the final whistle, and he did just that in the most recent of those 20 wins when the Hoops tied up the 2024/25 SPFL title at Tannadice – and he’s got the brand new t-shirt to prove it.

The 5-0 win over Dundee United on their own patch also resonated with the midfielder because of the venue – and it was nothing to do with him previously plying his trade across the road at Dens Park.

He’s celebrated Celtic lifting the title at Tannadice before, sitting in the crowd with fellow Celtic fans, but, on Saturday he was a fan on the pitch and got to celebrate the way only players can.

He said: “It’s been amazing. It’s hard to really put into words to be honest and it’s still not really hit me.

'It was something we were working towards the full season, we knew that was the end goal, to get that done.'

“After Saturday it’s something I will remember forever. You just sort of keep going now, it’s about keeping on pushing and the next target's coming along with the cup coming at the end of the season.

“I think once the season’s over and you look back, in the summer for example, winning the league is something really special for myself especially.

“Trophy Day may be where I get a little bit emotional, have a wee hankie in the back pocket just in case.

“But I couldn’t put into words on Saturday when that happened. I was lucky enough to be able to do it at Tannadice as well, as I was in the stand there in 2022 watching Ange Postecoglou’s team win it there.

“And that full circle moment is amazing, I couldn’t even imagine being on the pitch and winning the league there.

“So for me to work hard and get myself to that position was a credit to me but also a big thanks to my family in helping me do it.”

It’s a scenario that very Celtic fan dreams of, you sign for the club as the last few minutes of the transfer window tick away, a few months later you lift the League Cup, then the title, and there’s Scottish Cup at the end of May with everything that entails.

It truly has been a whirlwind few months for McCowan, and he said “Sitting on August 30th, I wouldn’t have told you that, even probably up until half-nine at night on August 31st I wouldn’t have said that was going to happen either.

“But it’s been amazing, I can’t even fathom that I’m in this position now. It’s just about being motivated to keep myself going and being a part of this squad, and making as big an impact as I can, so it’s been a dream start.”

As ever, though, it’s all about the next game and the cup final can wait, and the next game is now the derby at Ibrox this Sunday, an opposition and a venue that have that have delivered two rare defeats for the Hoops this season.

McCowan said: “I don’t really think it’s a point to prove, we’ve been the most consistent team in Scotland, and that’s why we’ve won the league.

“It’s about the performance that’s coming along with that and showing that we are champions, whether that’s at Ibrox on Sunday or Hibs at home, or anybody, it’s about putting on performances.

“We’ve got targets in our season that we want to hit, we’ve got other records within the season that we want to break, so that’s the goal now and we just need to go and show that."

The game also gives Celtic the opportunity to level the head-to-head in the league against the Ibrox side this term, something that will delight players and fans alike.

Giving a nod to the supporters waiting outside Lennoxtown, the midfielder said: “It’s always important. You ask anybody in the team, or anybody outwith the gates there, it’s always going to be important.

“But it’s about being consistent throughout your season, and it’s about showing that you’re now champions going into their patch and proving why you are, and putting on a performance that shows that - that’s our goal for Sunday.

“We’ve got other targets other than the cup final. The manager sets targets and keeps everybody motivated.

“Everybody was disappointed with the last two results against Rangers, there was no hiding that, no getting away from it.

“That’s what happens when you come to a club like this, whether you get beat by Rangers or St Johnstone, you’re disappointed and you know it’s not good enough.

“You’re expected to win at this club and that’s what we should be doing, we’re expected to do it and hopefully, come Sunday, we will be.”
