Not for the first time this season, Paris Saint-Germain have carved out a one-goal win away to a Premier League side on the European stage. The Ligue 1 champions are only halfway through their semi-final tie, though, and face the prospect of defending their slender lead against a reinforced Arsenal side at the Parc des Princes next week.
Speaking to the press after the match, Luis Enrique notably praised his side’s all-action defensive display after taking an early lead: “When you come to a play a rival of this level, you can’t start to question how much effort you’re going to put in. You need maximum effort, on and off the ball.”
The Asturian remains wary of the danger Arsenal can pose at the Parc des Princes next week, as the tie remains in the balance:
“We’ve reached our first objective with tonight’s result, which could have been a draw or a 2-0 win – but nobody can change the result now. The objective now is to win the next match, and we can’t take any chances, because with one goal suddenly the tie could be level again.”
“We lost at home and then we went to Anfield and got the win – now we’re ahead, but Arsenal could score themselves in Paris. They have nothing to lose, they’re behind in the tie. It’s going to be a fascinating match for football fans, but a bit tougher on the managers.”
