Luís Campos explains why PSG ‘considered’ but didn’t sign Victor Osimhen | OneFootball

Victor Osimhen’s (25) protracted departure from Napoli was the most drawn-out saga of the transfer window. It was known before the end of last season that the Nigeria international wanted to leave and that he had a release clause that would facilitate a departure.

Chelsea showed the most interest, whilst Saudi Arabia’s interest in Osimhen increased as the window progressed. However, neither move came off, despite desperate attempts from Chelsea to secure an agreement, which included sending a delegation to Naples.

In the wake of that failed move to Chelsea on deadline day, Osimhen was left out of Napoli’s Serie A squad. With few options and with most European transfer windows closed, the striker secured a loan move to Turkish side Galatasaray. However, it could have been different for Osimhen, had Paris Saint-Germain decided to follow up their interest.

Ramos injury didn’t force PSG to reignite Osimhen interest

For a time during the summer, it looked as if PSG and Chelsea would be engaged in a fierce battle to sign the striker, however, that never happened. Speaking at the Thinking Football Summit in Portugal, Les Parisiens’ sporting director revealed why.

“He was considered as one of the possibilities but we concluded that we were very satisfied with Gonçalo Ramos, Randal Kolo Muani and Marco Asensio,” said Campos, in a conference, transcribed by RMC Sport. Not even an injury to Ramos on the opening day of the Ligue 1 season instigated PSG to reignite their interest.
