According to L’Équipe, FC Lorient are exploring a move for former RC Lens goalkeeper Mathew Ryan, who is currently a free agent following the expiration of his short-term deal in the north of France on July 1.
The 33-year-old Australian, who captains the Socceroos and is set to feature at the 2026 World Cup, spent the second half of last season at Lens. He took over starting duties in early 2025, making 14 appearances, conceding 17 goals, and keeping six clean sheets during that stretch.Lorient’s need for a new goalkeeper has grown more pressing following the departure of Swiss international Yvon Mvogo, whose contract was not renewed. The Brittany-based club are reportedly progressing on Ryan ahead of their return to Ligue 1 following their promotion last season.
Ryan previously played for Brighton, Real Sociedad, and FC Copenhagen before his stint at Lens and boasts over 80 caps for Australia.GFFN | George Boxall
