We’ve got Majic, Stan and The King of Japan…and now Kasper!

The past few months have been really intensive as we make the finishing touches to the design artwork for our new two-volume history covering Celtic in the 1930s, to be published by Celtic Star Books next month.

Early starts and late finishes are very much the order of the day, have been for weeks now, so it was a nice wee surprise to receive a telephone call yesterday morning asking me if I had seen the latest video from Celtic TV, where goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel was interviewed.

I had had to admit that like pretty much everything else at the moment, I wasn’t up to date with that, so the call ended with the suggestion…

“Take a look when you get a moment. It might cheer you up.”

Now I’m intrigued.

Book prep goes on hold for a moment whilst I have a look. Not really sure what I’m looking for to be honest and I’m about to text asking for clues when I catch it…my previous book Majic, Stan and The King of Japan sitting on the coffee table, together with the biographies of captain Calum McGregor and the latest entrant to Celtic’s exclusive 500 Club, James Forrest.

Daft as it may sound, I still get a real buzz seeing my books displayed in the stores, so it was a lovely wee pick-me-up on a busy Monday morning to see it included in the Celtic video. Watching Shunsuke Nakamura turn on his magic in the Hoops remains one of my favourite memories of the past 20 years or so. Technically gifted and with the ability to produce the goods on the big occasion, under the most intense pressure. Champions League. Title deciders. The tests of a true Celt. It’s a story I was very proud to share last autumn.

Let’s hope that Kasper’s Celtic career is full of similar highlights and he can join Calmac, Jamesie and Naka in the list of players revered by our supporters in the years to come.

Here’s Kasper Schmeichel’s interview with Celtic TV in case you’ve missed it., like me!

Hail, hail!
