Franco Mastantuono has made the headlines in recent weeks after a fantastic start to the season with River Plate. According to a report, AC Milan and Man Utd are keeping a close eye on the winger.
With two goals and two assists in 13 appearances, the 17-year-old has ended up on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in Europe. The goal against Boca Juniors, converting a wonderful free-kick, has made the rounds on social media and the usual transfer hype is now a fact.
According to Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com, Milan are at the forefront of the admirers in Italy, having followed the player for quite some time. However, the competition is rather heavy as Manchester United are already plotting an offer, well ahead of the Rossoneri in that sense.
Real Madrid appeared to be in pole position for the left-footed winger but according Longo, the discussions with Mastantuono’s agent never took off. The Bernabeu side have thus put their pursuit on hold and it has left an opening for other suitors.
An important detail to note is that Mastantuono won’t be able to make the transfer until August 14, when he will turn 18, as Longo concludes. It has also been reported that the youngster has a €41m release clause, though this is an amount that most big clubs might be willing to pay.
