Sydney Lohmann says the environment and infrastructure at City was a decisive factor in her decision to join the Club.
After a trophy-laden spell in her homeland, which included four Bundesliga titles and a league and cup double last term, the Germany international’s move to England, subject to international clearance, from Bayern Munich represents her first outside of her homeland.
In pursuit of the next step in her career, Lohmann explained how personal growth and development was high on her list of priorities.
And after conversations with the Club and examining City’s playing style, she was under no illusions that the Blues was the ideal destination for her.
“First of all, I think always when you go somewhere else, a big step like that, it’s always good for your personal growth,” she explained.
“I visited the facilities here, had the talks, and I just felt there is a lot of space to grow for the team and also for individual players and for me.
“I was watching games of City and I was quite impressed with the playing style and I thought I wanted to be part of that.”
Lohmann was also quick to highlight the impact that positive talks with Charlotte O’Neill and Therese Sjogran had on her decision to join City.
With a new Head Coach on the way and several new faces already through the door, accompanied by the backdrop of a new, £10 million purpose-built training facility on the way, it’s the start of an exciting new era for the Blues
But the faith in a free-flowing attacking playing style remains a constant at all levels of the Club, and a philosophy that particularly impressed Lohmann during those conversations.
Regardless of playing personnel, these values have been at the centre of the team’s philosophy across the past 11 years which has allowed us to consistently compete at the elite level of the game.
It’s a foundation which Lohmann believes can lead to real success in the future.
She added: “It was an overall feeling and always good talks [with the Club]. They just presented me the philosophy of Manchester City, also.
“There is going to be a change in some positions, the manager, but said they won’t change their philosophy.
“I think that’s something good because you can build on something over more years. There’s a real good plan behind everything and that’s something that I liked.”
