Brentford loanees Ryan Trevitt and Tony Yogane both featured in a remarkable FA Cup performance from Exeter City against Premier League side Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.

The League One Grecians were eventually beaten 4-2 in a penalty shoot-out, with Gary Caldwell's side holding their top-flight visitors to a 2-2 draw after extra-time despite being reduced to 10 men late in the 90 minutes.

Exeter got off to the perfect start as Josh Magennis opened the scoring inside five minutes, poking in from close range after goalkeeper Carlos Miguel spilt a curling effort from Demetri Mitchell.

Ramon Sosa equalised 10 minutes later and Taiwo Awoniyi turned the game on its head before half-time.

Magennis restored parity five minutes after the break as he squeezed in his second of the night from a corner after his initial header had been parried.

Late in the 90, debutant Ed Turns was sent off for the hosts for a high challenge on Morgan Gibbs-White in the middle of the park, with both sides having chances to win the tie inside 20 minutes of stoppage-time after goalscorer Awoniyi sustained a nasty head injury.

Having held firm across that extensive stoppage-time and a further 30 minutes of extra-time, the tie was decided on penalties, with the Premier League outfit holding their nerve to progress.

Trevitt, who made his second Exeter debut against Stevenage at the beginning of the month, was included in the starting XI for the first time since returning to his former loan side for a second temporary spell in January.

The midfielder caused the Forest backline problems with his deliveries from set-pieces - including in the lead-up to the opening goal - and also saw a second-half shot go narrowly over the crossbar before being replaced on 71 minutes.

His fellow Bees loanee, Yogane, was introduced from the bench three minutes later and impressed throughout the remainder of the 90 and extra-time, winning a number of free-kicks to buy the Grecians time and territory as Nuno Espírito Santo's side ramped up the pressure.

In the shoot-out, the Brentford B winger showed his mental resolve by emphatically firing in Exeter's fourth penalty after Reece Cole had his effort saved and Angus MacDonald hit the woodwork, but Neco Williams converted from the spot to book Forest's place in the fifth round.

Jayden Meghoma was the only other Brentford loanee in action on Tuesday night as he helped Preston North End claim a 1-0 victory at Norwich City.

The 18-year-old, who had also started the previous three Championship fixtures as well as in the weekend's FA Cup penalty shoot-out victory against Wycombe Wanderers, played the full 90 minutes at Carrow Road.

Matt Cox picked up an injury in Crawley Town's 4-3 loss at Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

In his absence, Rob Elliot's side picked up an important three points on in their bid to avoid relegation from League One as they defeated Stevenage 3-1.

Finally, Myles Peart-Harris could feature for loan side Swansea City on Wednesday night when they host Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship.
