Hailing from Glasgow, the left-back has gone onto become a Liverpool legend over his time at the club, securing a Champions League trophy and a second Premier League title under Arne Slot this season.
However, Robertson’s journey wasn’t straightforward – he was let go by his boyhood club Celtic at age 15 for being deemed too small.
With a hectic summer transfer window approaching at Anfield and ongoing speculation about Liverpool pursuing a new left-back, Robertson’s earlier remarks about Celtic have resurfaced, hinting that his tenure at Anfield might be drawing to a close.

Robertson, whose contract runs until 2026, told Match of the Day following Liverpool’s title victory that his future remains uncertain when questioned about his plans ahead.
“Obviously, the club are going to have a busy summer, so we need to see where everyone stands,” Robertson said. “But it’s been a special time here, I loved my time here. It’s been eight special years, and I’ve cherished every moment I’ve played in front of these fans, especially at Anfield. Today was special.”
The 31 year-old has always openly expressed his affection for Celtic, having supported the club since childhood, and in 2023, he shared on the We Are Liverpool podcast that “Celtic was my life.”

“Had the season ticket, used to go to every home game in particular and try to go to some away games and things like that. Went to school, and then you come back and you go in your garden and you pretend to be Henrik Larsson, for instance.”

“I was lucky. The team I grew up with was a fantastic Celtic team with Henrik Larsson, Chris Sutton, Stiliyan Petrov, all these players. Neil Lennon. So I had a really good team to watch.”
Robertson added: “They were all my heroes. Celtic was it for me. I didn’t really watch much other football, I was that focused on trying to watch Celtic, and Celtic was in the Champions League.”
“That’s when I watched them play against English teams and stuff, but I didn’t watch that much English football. I only watched really the Champions League when [English] teams played in it.”

“If a Celtic game was on and say Liverpool were playing Man United, I’d watch Celtic against Motherwell or whoever it was. So it was always Celtic for me.”
That revelation may hint at Robertson’s preferred destination if he was to leave Liverpool, with former Reds striker Fernando Morientes suggesting this month that Celtic Park could realistically be his next stop.
“Robertson has spoken about Celtic, and it’s probably because he’s thinking about it [a move],” Morientes told Daily Record. “He is 31 and coming towards the end of his career. I think if he has a special bond with Celtic and the club recognises him as an important player, then it could be possible.”
