Liverpool can extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to nine points with a win at Everton tonight.
Arne Slot’s first experience of the Merseyside Derby arrives at Goodison Park, in the final derby fixture to be played at the famous ground. The Reds will want a response to their disappointing FA Cup exit at the weekend. A rotated side were beaten 1-0 at Championship strugglers Plymouth, just the club’s fourth defeat of the campaign in all competitions.
Tonight’s fixture was originally postponed in December due to adverse weather conditions. Liverpool will take on a resurgent Everton, who have won three consecutive Premier League games under David Moyes. However, a 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth at the weekend also saw Everton exit the FA Cup at the fourth round.
The Toffees are looking to win successive Merseyside Derby clashes at Goodison Park for the first time in 40 years.
Arne Slot has confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold has returned to training and is in contention to return. The right-back was substituted during the first half of the club’s win on February 1st with a muscular issue. Joe Gomez is ruled out for the Reds after suffering a reoccurrence of a hamstring issue at Plymouth on Sunday.
Curtis Jones should be available, after remaining an unused substitute at the weekend due to illness. Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Cody Gakpo are among the names who will return after rests at the weekend.
Everton predicted XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Salah, Gakpo, Diaz.
Everton host Liverpool in the Merseyside Derby on Wednesday February 12th 2025. Kick-off at Goodison Park is 19:30 GMT.
The Merseyside derby will be televised on TNT Sports 1, TNT Sports Ultimate and Discovery+.
