'We're good enough to reach the final' - Slot on UCL ambitions

Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain meet again with the Reds taking a 1-0 lead back to Anfield for tonight’s Champions League last-16 second leg.

A classic smash-and-grab from the Premier League leaders, made possible by an outstanding performance by goalkeeper Alisson Becker and Harvey Elliott’s late winner, means Arne Slot’s side will progress to the quarter-finals as long as they avoid defeat to the French champions.

But Luis Enrique’s team dominated the first leg in Paris and Liverpool know they cannot rely on Alisson’s saves alone against a hugely dangerous opponent, with winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia set to carry more of his threatening menace in PSG’s attack.

Liverpool are unbeaten at Anfield in 19 games, having taken another step closer to the Premier League title with a 3-1 win over Southampton at the weekend. The Reds also have Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Newcastle to consider - but for now all their focus is on PSG.

Harvey Elliott on beating Nuno Mendes and learning from his Fifa card

Harvey Elliott has described his goal against Paris Saint-Germain in the Parc des Princes and described how he got the better of Nuno Mendes.

He told Prime Video: “Obviously watching Nuno Mendes against Mo, he had a really, really good game and watching him from before and playing with his card on Fifa you know his pace is ridiculous.

“So, I thought, I’m not going to outdo him for pace here so I was just seeing how the moment would go. He went like this, and saw me, and then he turned his back so he was facing straight forward. And I thought, right if there’s ever a time I need to use whatever speed I have in me, it’s now!”

‘Best in the world’: All nine Alisson Becker saves ranked in Liverpool goalkeeper’s masterclass at PSG

Arne Slot said Alisson Becker proved he is “the best in the world”. Jamie Carragher called it “the best performance of his career”. Thierry Henry called him “magnificent”. Speaking to French publication Le Parisien, Brest manager Eric Roy likened him to Jesus (steady on, Eric). Alisson didn’t go that far but the Liverpool goalkeeper acknowledged that it was the “performance of my life”.

Liverpool pinched a remarkable 1-0 win at Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last week, and at the heart of the victory was an inspired Brazilian who wouldn’t be beaten. Alisson’s nine saves were the most by any Liverpool goalkeeper in a Champions League match since records began 22 years ago.

Here, we break down a goalkeeping masterclass and rank his work from ninth to best, from simple stops to spectacular saves:

'We need to be ready', says Van Dijk

Virgil van Dijk is predicting a “tough” night against PSG.

“I don’t think anyone who before our game over there expected it to be a dominating performance from us I don’t think they really looked at PSG throughout the season,” he said.

“We were prepared very well, obviously we could have done better in some ways, but we know that on Tuesday it is going to be as tough, maybe even tougher, because they will have to come and win.

“So it’s down to us to be more than ready for a big night. We need everyone in that sense: all the players, staff, fans.

“Hopefully it will be a great night for us but it is going to be hard work because they are a world-class team and they showed it against us already.”
