Liverpool are preparing for the departure of academy graduate Jarell Quansah. The Reds are eyeing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi as a replacement.
According to The Telegraph, ‘Liverpool are expected to make a significant offer for Guehi’. The Reds are in the best position to seal a deal amongst suitors for the 24-year-old.
Palace want to sell the Liverpool target this summer as he is entering the final year of his deal. It remains unclear how much the Eagles will demand for the England international.
Palace rejected £55 million plus £15 million in add-ons from Tottenham Hotspur in January, but Liverpool might not pony up that much for Guehi.
Liverpool have been trying to add a new defender to the ranks for some time. Last summer, they chased Leny Yoro but came up short as he moved to Manchester United.
The Reds also wanted to push for Dean Huijsen before he joined Real Madrid. Now, their radar has turned to Guehi, and they will back themselves to get the transfer over the line.
Guehi won 54% of his aerial and 63% of his ground duels while helping to keep 11 clean sheets in 34 appearances for Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
He also played a pivotal role as they beat Manchester City in the final to clinch the FA Cup, claiming their first trophy in 164 years of existence.
The England international centre-back is a staple of the Three Lions backline and proved key in the run to the European Championship final last year.
Liverpool will also be pushing for Guehi, who earns £50,000 per week, with an eye on the Ibrahima Konate situation.
The Frenchman is entering the final year of his contract with the Reds, and Real Madrid have been sounding out interest in his services.
After their ordeal with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool will be wary of losing another defender in his prime. However, the Reds do not have any leverage in the situation.
