Real Madrid star Vinícius Jr. has on Tuesday received fresh backing in his claim to be world football’s best player.
The subject of wide-man Vinícius’ place amongst the game’s very best has of course positioned itself front and centre in the headlines across Europe over the last week.
This comes after the Brazilian, long considered the frontrunner for the award, was overlooked for the Ballon d’Or at the last minute.
The prize instead went the way of Spain and Manchester City standout Rodri.
The days since, in turn, have seen widespread discussion sparked amongst fans and the media alike, surrounding the best player in the world debate.
And, as alluded to above, one high-profile player in no two minds that Vinícius, despite missing out on the Ballon d’Or, remains the standout performer in the game at present, comes in the form of Cody Gakpo.
Speaking during a quick-fire Q&A with Goal on Tuesday, Liverpool star Gakpo was asked:
‘Who is the best player in the world right now?’
And the Dutch international showed little hesitation, in responding:
‘Vinícius Jr.’
