Liverpool will likely make several changes to the squad during the summer transfer window.

A new left-back could be pursued, with Andy Robertson showing signs of regression this campaign.

The Scotland international has been a brilliant performer for the Reds over the past eight years, but the club needs an upgrade. Robertson has become less effective as an attacking and defensive force.

The 31-year-old has failed to register a goal or an assist in 27 Premier League games this season. He has won an average of 1.8 duels, made 1.3 clearances and 3.2 ball recoveries per game.

Kostas Tsimikas has impressed in phases but has not done enough to warrant a regular starting role.

The Merseyside giants should pursue a deal for Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez as a successor. The Hungarian star has developed into one of the league’s best-performing left-backs over the past year.

Kerkez has been ever-present in the top-flight this season with eight goal involvements. He has also been brilliant defensively, with 3.8 duels won per outing alongside 2.7 clearances and 4.6 ball recoveries.

Robertson has a better passing accuracy than Kerkez (89 percent to 81%), but the latter would fare much better at Liverpool, who command 10.2%  more possession per game than the Cherries.

Kerkez has already established himself as one of the best full-backs in the division. It appears a no-brainer decision to sign him by meeting the £45 million asking price (h/t the Times).

There will be competition from Premier League rivals this summer, but Liverpool could have an edge with the presence of sporting director Richard Hughes, who previously signed Kerkez for the Cherries.

Hughes was Bournemouth’s technical director when Kerkez was recruited from AZ Alkmaar for £15.5m two years ago. The 45-year-old could be tasked with bringing the left-back to Anfield this summer.
