Liverpool are making some goalkeeper moves that appear worrying in light of Alisson Becker’s injury. Are the Reds being forced into a rethink?

Alisson Becker has a hamstring injury - and that's very bad news. In fact, it's worse than it first sounds as this is the Brazilian's second major hamstring problem of 2024.

The last came in February, with Alisson subsequently missing 15 games for club and country. Now there's another - and he's not expected to return until after the November international break.

It feels a little like he's breaking down. While that could be an overreaction and the quickfire hamstring problems are coincidental, some reported moves by Liverpool point in a worrying direction.

The first is that the Reds are reportedly looking to sign a new goalkeeper. They're linked with Mile Svilar of AS Roma, Alisson's old club. It does feel strange for them to be looking at a goalkeeper right after the transfer window - especially when they did sign one in that window.

But that's not all. Talksport reports that Liverpool now want £30m for Caoimhin Kelleher - a £5m increase on his price in the summer. It's a strange one, given the Irishman's public admittance that he wants first-team football. As his contract winds down, the price should get lower but Liverpool are actually more reluctant to let go.

It certainly appears that the club want to secure their goalkeepers all of a sudden.

Giorgi Mamardashvili

Liverpool signed Giorgi Mamardashvili in the summer before loaning him straight back to Valencia. The Georgian is supposed to be the long-term option in goal and while he certainly will be that, the Reds appear to want further options in goal.

Now, perhaps that's because of Alisson's injury. Maybe it's because Mamardashvili isn't going to arrive next summer, but the summer after that.

Either way, there's a lot of uncertainty around the goalkeeper role at Anfield right now. Things feel less secure than at any point since Alisson's arrival in 2018 .
