Aston Villa closing in on a deal to sign Harvey Elliott from Liverpool before transfer deadline.
The two teams are advancing in discussions over a loan deal for Elliott with an obligation to make the move permanent. Elliott has been keen to explore his options this summer, after struggling for regular first-team football under Arne Slot.
The 22-year-old made just two starts in the Premier League last season and the summer arrival of Florian Wirtz has further increased competition for places.
Earlier this summer, the midfielder admitted he will reluctantly explore a move away from Anfield for the betterment of his career.
Aston Villa now look set to win the race with The Athletic reporting that talks are progressing well. The loan deal will include a mandatory purchase option with Liverpool seeking a fee in excess of £35m.
Unai Emery has turned to Elliott after Aston Villa failed in a pursuit of West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta. Villa are keen to add creativity to their ranks on deadline day, after failing to win – or score – in their opening three Premier League fixtures.
Elliott will arrive in the Midlands after an excellent summer with England. The attacking midfielder was named Player of the Tournament after scoring five goals during England’s success at the u-21 European Championship.
