Liverpool have made a renewed move to sign Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg.
The Spanish international centre-back is a target for several Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle United and Arsenal. Real Madrid have also shown interest.
The Reds reportedly ‘made a strong push’ for the defender, but Huijsen, who has a £50 million release clause, has not decided which club he will join next.
Liverpool want to reinforce their defence. Virgil Van Dijk is entering the twilight of his career, and Ibrahima Konate has not renewed his contract, which expires in 2026.
The Merseyside club wants to sell or loan Jarell Quansah and have Huijsen take his place in the squad.
However, Chelsea reportedly lead the race and are ready to offer him first-team football. The Blues also want to get a deal over the line early.
Huijsen should look past immediate game time and consider the bigger picture. Liverpool is the move that makes sense.
Huijsen could learn from Van Dijk, arguably the best centre-back of this generation. This is an opportunity no serious young defender should pass up.
Van Dijk’s composure, positioning and game reading can rub off on him. Both men are also Dutch, which would help.
Konate brings a raw athleticism and modern defensive style that complements that experience. Training alongside these two would be like attending a masterclass every single day.
By contrast, Chelsea have become synonymous with instability. The lack of leaders at the back is also worrying.
Huijsen risks being thrown into chaos and expected to shine. One minute, you are the future. Next, you are another name buried in a bloated squad.
Liverpool have a clear vision. The club is challenging for the Premier League, consistently competing in the Champions League and having a winning culture.
A move to Merseyside makes perfect sense for Huijsen.
