Klopp looks back fondly on his time on Merseyside

Jürgen Klopp has extended his congratulations to Arne Slot and Liverpool as the Reds clinched the Premier League title on Sunday.

The German spent nine years as Liverpool’s manager before leaving his post at the end of last season, citing burnout from the job.

He delivered a raft of silverware to Anfield during his tenure, including the 2019 Champions League, 2020 Premier League, and 2022 FA Cup.

As Liverpool beat Tottenham 5-1 on Sunday to clinch a second Premier League title, though, Klopp was among the first to congratulate his former team.

He posted a photo of the Anfield celebrations on Instagram alongside a touching caption.

He wrote: “Super grateful for the past, super, super happy about the present, extremely positive about the future!

“Congratulations - [You Never Walk Alone]. Thank you - Luv.”

The win sees Slot become just the sixth manager to win the Premier League in his debut season, with his predecessors including Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti. He sealed the title with four matches to spare. Liverpool’s 25 wins in 34 matches played has seen them stay top of the pile since November 2, 2024.

They will receive a guard of honour at Stamford Bridge next week as they travel to face Chelsea, and will be set to lift the trophy on the final day of the season, hosting Crystal Palace at Anfield.

An open-top bus parade has already been scheduled for the day after the Premier League ends, a bank holiday Monday, and will follow a 15km route through Liverpool city centre.
