Liverpool left back Konstantinos Tsimikas is on the cusp of sealing a move to AS Roma.
According to The Athletic, the Reds have allowed him to undergo a medical with the Serie A club ahead of a season-long loan move.
Liverpool and Roma have agreed a dry loan with no optional or mandatory purchase clause in the deal.
Roma made their move earlier this week. Liverpool initially wanted to part ways with Tsimikas on a permanent transfer.
But with only a couple of days left until the transfer deadline, they’re now open to a temporary switch.
Tsimikas is ready to leave Anfield to take up a fresh challenge elsewhere. He wants to join a club that can guarantee him regular opportunities after falling down the pecking order at Anfield.
His fate was sealed by Liverpool’s relentless transfer splurge this summer. The Reds bolstered the left back position with the addition of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.
With Andrew Robertson drawing interest from Atletico Madrid earlier in the summer, Tsimikas was expected to play back up to the Hungarian.
However, Robertson ultimately decided to see out the rest of his contract at Anfield, which is now forcing Tsimikas through the exit door.
The 29-year-old defender was left out of Liverpool’s opening two Premier League matches and the Community Shield defeat against Crystal Palace.
Tsimikas joined Liverpool from Olympiacos in 2020 when former manager Jurgen Klopp was in charge.
He has spent the past five years playing second fiddle to Robertson. Two years ago, he signed a new deal that should have kept him tied to the club until the summer of 2027.
However, the chances of establishing himself as Liverpool’s first-choice left back are non-existent, so a move away from the club could be the best outcome for all parties.
