Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah says he is ready to take the “next step” in his career amid reports linking him with a transfer to Bayer Leverkusen.

The centre-back barely featured during the Reds’ Premier League title-winning campaign following a poor opening day performance.

Quansah was subbed off at halftime against Ipswich Town and went on to make only three more starts in the top flight.

The 22-year-old could leave Anfield in the summer to get more gametime elsewhere, with Leverkusen “seriously considering” a move for the player, according to Sky Sports News.

“I’m not getting too high or too low with anything,” Quansah said ahead of England U21’s European Championship group stage game against Slovenia.

“I think I can take massive learnings from the three seasons I’ve had in professional football. From Bristol Rovers until now, to put perspective and look back I’m in a very good position to take the next step. It comes with working hard and staying focused on what I can control.

“As for the future, it’ll put me in the best stead if I just keep my head down and keep working.”
