Liverpool edged another tense fixture in their pursuit of the Premier League title with a narrow 1-0 win over Leicester City, but it was the wider context that dominated the discussion in The Post Match Raw Podcast on Anfield Index.
Trev Downey, Dave Hendrick and Hari Sethi analysed both the performance and the growing scrutiny around Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future at Liverpool. Despite the three points, Trev noted that it was “a difficult enough watch again,” reflecting the underlying tension even in victory.
Dave Hendrick was quick to point out Liverpool’s statistical control: “We created enough to win the game very comfortably but we felt quite nervy.” He also emphasised the club’s dominance, stating: “Liverpool have won 24 games now, which is six more than anybody else… and scored the most goals.”
Hari Sethi framed Liverpool’s performances as deceptively comfortable, likening their current run-in to Usain Bolt easing down before the finish line. “They’ve not been playing at their very best for a while, but they know what they have to do,” he said. “We’re Usain Bolt in a Liverpool jersey just slowing down before the 100 metres.”
He also touched on the broader fan perception: “It’s almost a joy to see the complete shadow of Jamie Vardy now… even hate itself can’t sustain him.”
Yet Hari’s deeper concern was reserved for Trent. He reflected: “The club has done their utmost to protect Trent… but I think it’s been pretty clear for quite a long time now what his decision is.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold came off the bench to fire home a brilliant winner – his first ever with his left foot. Yet the moment was overshadowed by his post-match interview. “I felt like what he said and the way that he said it left it quite obvious that he is on the way out,” said Trev.
Hari added: “I don’t necessarily begrudge a player wanting to move… but it’s the way he’s gone about it.” He pointed out the lack of clarity, noting, “He hasn’t done very many interviews… and in those rare moments, he’s avoided the burning issue.”
Despite their frustrations, all three panellists praised Alexander-Arnold’s performance and commitment since returning from injury. Dave highlighted, “He has bust his ass to get back. He wants to come back and win this title… he lifts the tempo when he gets the ball.”
However, Dave didn’t shy away from critique either, remarking: “He is tarnishing his legacy at the club… and he is going to ultimately go down as Steve McManaman 2.0.”

The hosts agreed that Trent remains one of Liverpool’s most gifted players, but questioned the narrative being crafted. “Even if he does leave, he’s still a Liverpool fan,” said Dave.
As Liverpool edge closer to a 20th league title, the conversation around Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future continues to cast a shadow. In a campaign defined by efficiency and experience, the podcast struck a balance between admiration for Trent’s talents and frustration with his silence.
Liverpool march on, but the post-match reflections underline that trophies don’t silence every question, especially not those about one of the most iconic players of this era.
