Liverpool Begin Preseason with 3-1 Win Over Preston in Emotional Tribute to Jota
Liverpool kicked off their preparations for the 2025 /26 season with 3 - 1 friendly victory over Preston North End on Sunday in match marked by both football action & deep emotion.
The Premier League champions took the lead through Conor Bradley in the 33 minute followed by second half strikes from Darwin Nunez 53' and Cody Gakpo 88'. Preston's Liam Lindsay pulled one back in the 83 minute.
Before kick off, players & fans observed minute of silence to honor Diogo Jota who tragically passed away in car accident on 3 Jul. In touching gesture, Preston captain Ben Whiteman laid wreath of flowers in front of the Liverpool supporters.
Jota’s final appearance came in Liverpool’s 1 - 1 draw with Crystal Palace on the final matchday of last season where he celebrated lifting the PL trophy at Anfield with his wife & 3 children.
Liverpool have officially retired the No20 jersey worn by Jota across all levels of the club including the women’s and youth teams ensuring his legacy lives on.
