In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey revealed that Liverpool are showing interest in Toulouse defender Charlie Cresswell. It is understood that the Reds are eyeing a move to acquire the services of the English centre-back.
Cresswell enjoyed a solid campaign at the French club after he put in a string of impressive displays for them on the defensive end of the field. The English talent found the back of the net four times and picked up a couple of assists in 34 matches for Toulouse last season across various competitions.
The 22-year-old was a decent performer when defending inside his half and deserves credit for making 35 tackles, 44 blocks and 28 interceptions in Ligue 1 football. He was even tidy when distributing the ball from the back, based on his pass success rate of 83% in the French top tier (stats via fbref.com).
Cresswell is under contract at Toulouse until the summer of 2028, which could make it difficult for the Reds to recruit him on a cut-price deal this off-season.

Cresswell is a tough-tackling defender who can read the danger well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when needed and is proficient at playing his way out from the back.
The English sensation can even use his strong 1.90m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. However, only time will tell whether he can maintain his good form in Premier League football if the Reds manage to snap him up in this summer transfer window.
Cresswell would add more bite and steel to Liverpool head coach Arne Slot’s midfield. He is good enough to serve as a good squad player for the Merseyside club in the coming seasons. Plus, the English talent would help Liverpool challenge across all fronts in the future.
At 22, Cresswell has the potential to be a future star in English football. Thus, Slot would be wise to try everything in his power to lure him to Anfield before the end of this summer transfer window, but only if he is available for a reasonable fee.
