Liverpool believe they’ve found ‘excellent value’ in the transfer market as they close in on a Euro 2024 star. Giorgi Mamardashvili could be on his way to Anfield - but with a pit stop first.

Paul Joyce of The Times writes that Liverpool are stepping up their interest in Giorgi Mamardashvili. This comes after reports in Spain that the Reds had actually made a bid for the Georgian.

Liverpool have been linked with Mamardashvili for the last few weeks and appear to have this one close now. Every source suggests the goalkeeper is on board with the move - it's simply a matter of agreeing a fee with Valencia.

That price should be in the £30m to £40m range and Joyce claims Liverpool believe this is 'excellent value'. That's why they're pushing through a transfer for a player they don't actually need.

Instead, this is future planning. Liverpool will look to sign Mamardashvili with the intention of loaning him out immediately - that could even mean sending him straight back to Valencia for a year.

They want him to replace Alisson Becker but with the Brazilian still arguably the world's best goalkeeper, that certainly won't be this season. 2025, however, could see things change.

Liverpool push to sign Mamardashvili

Liverpool's move for Mamardashvili comes after the player rejected an offer from Chelsea earlier in the transfer window. He's a player in demand - though, as a goalkeeper, Chelsea were always going to make some sort of offer for him.

He's on board with the Reds' plan for him, too, which is interesting. Liverpool are looking to give him an uncertain year - at least a year - by loaning him out somewhere still undetermined.

Not every player would be into that, but Mamardashvili clearly sees the opportunity to succeed Alisson Becker as too good to pass up. Now, what that means for Caoimhin Kelleher is another matter.
