Game of the week: OGC Nice v RC Strasbourg Alsace, Sunday 19:45 (UK)

Things don’t get any easier at Nice. On a four-game unbeaten run that includes wins against Monaco and Brest, Le Gym should come into this one high on confidence. And whilst they do, they approach the game weakened by further injuries. Jonathan Clauss is the latest to pick up a blow. A thigh injury, the severity of which has not yet been diagnosed, will likely see him miss the encounter with Strasbourg. With four assists already this season, he is the source of Nice’s attacking impetus down the left and he will be a big miss. There are positives, however. Sofiane Diop is fit and firing again whilst the return of Tanguy Ndombélé just before the international break added more attacking impetus to the midfield. Scoring had looked like an issue for Nice at times, however, with important players returning in the attacking sector, this is now less of a concern, defence, however, is.

Strasbourg showed their inexperience in the 3-1 loss to Monaco. With just 10 minutes to go, they had the game in their hands before ultimately throwing the game away, squandering their 1-0 advantage. There is no need for Liam Rosenior’s side to be demotivated, however. Performances are still there, even if, with two defeats on the bounce, results are not. This will be an interesting match-up with RCSA likely to mirror Nice’s 3-4-3 formation, making this a game about match-ups, intensity, and duels. It will become a question of who can show the more quality on the day and between these two sides, the difference isn’t extreme and small details could decide what is a finely poised game.
