Matchday four took place during the week with Cruz Azul looking to secure a first win of the season against Necaxa whilst James Rodríguez and Javier Hernández went head-to-head in Guanajuato with León hosting Chivas.
The results of Matchday four:
Club América 3-0 San LuisPuebla 0-1 Mazatlán León 2-1 Chivas Necaxa 1-3 Cruz AzulTigres 4-0 Tijuana
Club América and San Luis were both semifinalists in last month’s Apertura, but it was the reigning champions who made a statement. Víctor Dávila struck early with a simple tap-in before doubling his tally with another poacher’s finish before the break. Las Águilas came out flying in the second half and sealed the deal when Alex Zendejas finished off a ruthless move that caught the visitors napping. The win takes André Jardine’s side to ten points from four games.
Mazatlán climbed to the league with a second win in four matches when Emmanuel Gularte slotted the ball into the back of his own net to leave Puebla still searching for a first win of the campaign.
León maintained their perfect start to the season with a hard-fought win over Los Rojiblancos. James Rodríguez, fresh off his first goal for the club last weekend, turned provider with a pinpoint cross for Jhonder Cádiz to notch his second of the campaign. Ten minutes later, manager Óscar García saw red for an apparent kick at a León player, but the visitors hit back soon after as Jonathan Padilla coolly slotted past Raúl Rangel. The hosts had a chance to retake the lead from the spot, but Rangel produced a brilliant diving save to deny Adonis Frías. Moments later, Cádiz stepped up again, rifling home a clinical striker’s finish to secure León’s third straight win to start the season.
Cruz Azul secured their first win of the season despite the off-field turmoil. La Máquina had to rally from behind after Diber Cambindo bagged his fourth goal in as many games to set up a potential upset. The visitors hit back before the break, with Erik Lira levelling things up. In the second half, Giorgos Giakoumakis opened his Clausura account to put Azul ahead for the first time, before Lorenzo Faravelli, fresh off his goal against Puebla, sealed the victory with another clinical finish.
The final game of the night saw Tigres bounce back in style with a dominant win. After dropping their first points of the season in a 1-1 draw with Chivas at the weekend, they put fellow Apertura Liguilla side Tijuana to the sword with a four-goal rout. Juan Brunetta struck twice, including a second-minute opener, while Juan Pablo Vigón and Joaquín grabbed their first goals of the Clausura to round off an emphatic victory.

Atlas and Monterrey provided all of the goal-mouth action, with Jeremy Márquez twice putting the home side ahead in the first half. Los Rayados fought back and eventually took the lead for the first time in the 74th minute through José Alvarado, but they were denied victory in the dying moments as Matheus Doría powered home a bullet header, ensuring both teams remained winless in the Clausura.
Pachuca kept up with León to maintain a 100% record against Querétaro. Solomón Rondón's first-half header added to his weekend goal against Monterrey by scoring the only goal of the game.
Pumas and Toluca met in the capital on Wednesday night where Los Diablos Rojos opened the scoring, forcing Nathan Silva to turn into his own net before finding an equaliser ten minutes later through Pablo Bennevendo to score his first goal for the club.
Los Bravos doubled their tally for wins in the Clausura with a one-nil victory over struggling Santos Laguna. Oscar Estupiñán scored six times during the Apertura but waited until matchday four to open his account for the Clausura, albeit a crucial goal that would secure maximum points against a winless Santos.
