Bayer Leverkusen equal Bundesliga unbeaten away record

Bayer Leverkusen have equalled the record for the longest unbeaten away record in Bundesliga history following their 2-2 draw at Freiburg on Sunday afternoon, their 33rd trip away from the BayArena without defeat.

Last year's champions may be unable to retain their Bundesliga title following Bayern Munich's 3-3 draw at RB Leipzig on Saturday and their own subsequent draw the following day, but they have still written more history this campaign.

The 2-2 draw at the Europa-Park Stadion, with Florian Wirtz and Jonathan Tah scoring the goals, means Leverkusen are now just one game away from going a second consecutive campaign unbeaten on the road in the German top flight.

The previous sole owners of the record were Bayern, who did not lose a single away Bundesliga game between Matchday 32 of the 2011/12 term and Matchday 27 in 2013/14.

Jupp Heynckes and Pep Guardiola both contributed to that streak, but Xabi Alonso has been in charge for the entirety of Leverkusen's run, meaning he leads the way on his own, in terms of the unbeaten away record amongst coaches.

The last time Leverkusen were beaten in unfamiliar surroundings was on the final day of the 2022/23 term, when they were brushed aside 3-0 by Bochum.
