Chelsea are “actively monitoring” the centre back market and are interested in several players according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Blues had a busy summer window with a number of new names coming in, the most high profile of which were Pedro Neto, Jadon Sancho and Joao Felix.
Despite more new faces and an inexperienced manager at the helm in Enzo Maresca, the Blues haver started well and currently sit third in the league after the first 11 games.
For all the good work Chelsea have done there are still question marks surrounding them defensively, with the Blues looking shaky at the back on a number of occasions this season.
Club legend Thiago Silva left at the end of last season and the club haven’t replaced his quality or leadership at the back.
Tosin Adarabioyo arrived on a free from Fulham, but it looks like he’s going to be more of a squad player and you can tell Chelsea are missing a commanding presence at the back.

Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana are the current first choice pairing, a partnership Noni Madueke described as perfect.
However, the drop off in quality to the other options of Adarabioyo, Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi is big and there’s a general feeling Chelsea need to sign a top level commanding centre back.
Romano has provided an update and has revealed the Blues are actively monitoring the centre back market, with Benfica’s Tomas Araujo a player they like.
“Chelsea are actively monitoring the centre back market,” he said on his YouTube channel.
“Let’s see if it will be January or summer. They considered Tomás Araújo in the last days of the summer just gone but Benfica were not selling. Chelsea are interested in several players!”

It’s also been recently reported the Blues have an interest in Araujo’s Benfica team-mate Antonio Silva, whilst Nottingham Forest’s Murillo is another name that’s been mentioned.
It will be interesting to see if Chelsea move in January or the summer, but its good to see the club have realised it’s a position which needs addressing.
