Lepore proposes honorary citizenship for Saputo. President: “An honour” | OneFootball

With a note issued this afternoon, Mayor Matteo Lepore has announced a proposal to grant honorary citizenship to the president of Bologna FC 1909, Joey Saputo. The proposal will now be voted on by the City Council.

“The bond between Bologna and Joey Saputo surely comes from the passion and commitment with which he guides BFC,  culminating in many the sacrifices and much determination apparent this season”, stated Mayor Lepore. “But it doesn’t stop there. In the 10 years since his arrival in the city, Saputo has come to know and love Bologna. There are many witnesses to his ever longer permanent stays in the city and the attention he pays to many initiatives in our region. For this reason, I have proposed to the City Council to grant Saputo honorary citizenship as a form of recognition for his becoming part of our community. A valued entrepreneur, a friend, and Bolgona citizen by right”.

Following the news, President Saputo commented: “I want to thank Mayor Matteo Lepore from the bottom of my heart for the proposal of honorary Bologna citizenship. Whilst we wait for the decision from the City Council, I can only say that it would be a great honour for me: in these 10 years, especially the last one, I have journeyed the entire city, I have got to know Bologna and its people, and now I feel part of this Community. Furthermore, I believe that the club of which I have the honour of being president can and must play an important role in enriching the region it represents, this is also why the Mayor’s proposal makes me proud”.
