In what has been a topsy-turvy campaign for RB Leipzig, the visit of Bundesliga title favourites Bayern Munich this weekend represents a chance for Benjamin Šeško's side to stall the record champions' aim of obtaining the Meisterschale while lifting their own hopes of climbing back into the division's top four.
Ahead of the Matchday 32 encounter at the Red Bull Arena, bundesliga.com sat down with star striker Šeško to get the Slovenian's thoughts on the game and his own season to date, as well as Leipzig's goals for the remainder of the campaign.
bundesliga.com: Leipzig host Bayern on Saturday. How do you plan on disrupting their rhythm?
Benjamin Šeško: “First of all, we need to stick together in every single situation [and] try to surprise them in some kind of way. I believe that we can play well; we can show ourselves again. It's going to be really tough, especially because they're playing for the title. It's not going to be easy but I think we can do it, definitely. Hopefully it's the right time again for us to have a great game.”

bundesliga.com: Is there an extra motivation knowing you could possibly spoil their attempts to win the title?
Šeško: “I mean, for some that might be the case, for others not. I think it's just a case of trying to find a way [to get at them]; let's say press them, try to surprise them, whatever. We need to try and [stand up to them], even though it's Bayern Munich. Of course, that’s tough because they're just really good. I hope and I believe that we can play a great match.”
bundesliga.com: What were the main reasons for the heavy 4-0 loss against Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend?
Šeško: “Firstly, the thing is, we are a kind of team that everyone wants [to beat]. We [also] always want to win. Of course, there are some in-game details like you don't close down here or you are a couple of seconds too late. I think things like that hurt us a couple of times. It's a season where we have to stay together. We have to try to bring as much effort away from the pitch as possible too. These kind of seasons can be like a rollercoaster and we have to be focused just to bring maximum effort out.”
bundesliga.com: Why are games against Bayern always special?
Šeško: “I think it's just because they are the biggest teams in the Bundesliga. I think it's a mental thing. The better the opponents are, the more you want to show off [what you can do]. I think it's just psychology in that way. It works for everyone.”
bundesliga.com: Thomas Müller is leaving Bayern at the end of the season. What comes to your mind when you think about him?
Šeško: “For me, he's a person that, even though I don't know him personally, gives good energy to the team, is a great player and a great team player. When you see him scoring a goal, he celebrates it with the team. You just need an experienced guy like that; he’s a great dude in general, from what I see. If you have that thing he has of being a good man and a great player on the pitch, I think it is a great combination for all those who can play with him to appreciate.”
bundesliga.com: You’ve only missed one Bundesliga match all season and have scored 12 goals and laid on five assists. How do you assess your campaign so far?
Šeško: “I think it's quite OK, to be honest. We have to also realise that the season was been a little bit of a rollercoaster. We were trying, fighting, we had amazing moments and we had sad moments. I’ve been trying to bring as much out of myself as possible in games. Of course, there is still a lot that I could do: try to help the team even more in some situations, but it's a process and everything takes time. I would say that, in general, my season was quite OK. There are still three games left to try and bring as much of myself as possible to the fore.”
bundesliga.com: Where will Leipzig finish at the end of the season?
Šeško: “As high as possible. That's my wish; it's everyone's wish here. The thing is, we can do it. It's just that after such a season, we also need a little bit of luck in certain situations. I believe we're going to do it.”
bundesliga.com: And your prediction for Leipzig vs. Bayern on Saturday?
Šeško: “I can't really say that to be honest. I hope we win, that's the only thing I hope. I believe, even though it's going to be ridiculously hard.”
