Leicester City ended Chelsea’s 100% record in the Barclays Women’s Super League as the leaders had to settle for a point.
The Foxes lost Deanne Rose to injury in only the 10th minute, Guro Reiten fired a clear chance well over before hitting the home crossbar from outside the box.
Although the visitors were dominant they fell behind in the 20th minute, allowing substitute Missy Goodwin far too much time and space to control Asmita Ale’s cross and fired past Hannah Hampton into the net.
Aggie Beever-Jones headed a Wieke Kaptein cross wide with 20 minutes left on the clock, as Chelsea continued to struggle to threaten the City goal.
But in the 76th minute Kaptein took aim from 20 yards and found the bottom corner, beyond the dive of goalkeeper Janina Leitzig.
Mayra Ramirez’s shot was turned round the near post by Leitzig and from the resulting corner – Chelsea’s 16th of the match – the ball was headed just over the bar and onto the roof of the net.
Kaptein saw her header turned behind by Leitzig and from the corner Lucy Bronze’s close-range effort was blocked.
Six minutes were added on, Chelsea’s Alejandra Bernabe put a couple of far-post headers wide, Sjoeke Nusken fired over the top from a Ramirez cut-back before her last-chance header was saved smartly on the line.
