Filippo Inzaghi is very impressed that his brother Simone Inzaghi has brought Inter Milan to the level they’re at now despite major sales.

The legendary former AC Milan, Juventus, and Italy striker praised the Nerazzurri while speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews.

When Inzaghi arrived at Inter, there was no doubt about what the financial situation was.

It was in fact the need to sacrifice top names from the squad that had provoked Antonio Conte to leave the Nerazzurri bench abruptly after guiding the club to the Serie A title.

Inter sold Achraf Hakimi in the summer of 2021, not long after Inzaghi’s arrival.

But that was far from the only big sale that the Nerazzurri would carry out with the former Lazio coach at the helm.

Romelu Lukaku left for an even larger fee later that same summer.

Then, after a summer of less big departures in 2022, last time around Inter sold both Andre Onana and Marcelo Brozovic for big fees.

Meanwhile, the likes of Ivan Perisic and Milan Skriniar have been among the players to have left on free transfers during Inzaghi’s time at the helm.

Nevertheless, Inter have seemingly grown season upon season.

Some of that owes to the players who have come in the other direction. Inter have occasionally spent big, such as when they brought in defender Benjamin Pavard from Bayern Munich.

And the Nerazzurri’s penchant for free transfers has certainly not been any secret.

All of Hakan Calhanoglu, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Marcus Thuram have signed without transfer fees.

Filippo Inzaghi: “Didn’t Expect Inter Milan To Reach This Level After The Sales”

This season, however, Inter have won the Serie A title for the first time under Inzaghi.

That comes after having reached the Champions League final.

There have also been two Coppa Italia trophies, and the Supercoppa Italiana on three occasions.

Clearly, for as high-profile as all of the sales have been, they have not stopped Inter and Inzaghi from finding a way to succeed.

“Inter have grown a lot thanks to Simone’s work,” said the coach’s brother Filippo.

“Particularly because, looking back, it hardly seemed like this level of success would be possible after so many big name players were sold.”

“And then they brought in players like Francesco Acerbi and Matteo Darmian at the same time,” noted the former striker.

“I wouldn’t have thought that they could reach this level,” he added.
