Farke is reportedly "seething" about Gray's impending sale, according to Leeds All Over.

Leeds were defeated by Southampton in the play-off final at Wembley at the end of last season. Their failure to win promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking means they must sell players in order to comply with the EFL's profit and sustainability rules.

If Farke was not already downbeat after Leeds were beaten in the play-off final, he certainly was when he learned that Gray could be sold this summer.

The teenager is one of the most promising youngsters in England at the moment, after he played a key role for Leeds last season as they narrowly missed out on a return to the top flight.

The England under-21 international featured both at right-back and in midfield for the Whites last season, and showed that he is more than capable of playing Premier League football despite his age.

David Ornstein of The Athletic revealed that Tottenham Hotspur then joined the race for the youngster, after Brentford's bid in the region of £35m+ was turned down.

Spurs are now in pole position to secure Gray's signature, and he has already completed a part of a medical with the North London club.

Farke was so disappointed to learn of Gray's potential departure that he is considering his future at the club, although a departure is unlikely at the moment in time.

Leeds squad could be weakened significantly this summer

Gray's impending move to the Premier League is unlikely to be the only deal that weakens Leeds' squad ahead of another season in the Championship.

Crysencio Summerville has been the subject of plenty of transfer speculation so far this summer, linking him with the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea, after an impressive campaign in which he scored 21 goals in all competitions.

Italian forward Wilfried Gnonto is also attracting interest from a number of Premier League clubs, including Everton, after the 20-year-old impressed in the second tier last term.

Meanwhile, French club Stade Rennais are interested in a move for Leeds' Finnish midfielder Glen Kamara, and defender Charlie Cresswell is set to join Toulouse for £3.8m.

While Leeds are expected to lose some of their best players after failing to bounce back to the top flight, they will be set to receive a significant amount of money in transfer fees.

The Whites' first priority will be to ensure that they are in line with financial restrictions, before they begin to set their sights on potential additions for the 2024/25 campaign.

Leeds will be targeting promotion next season

If Farke can get over the frustration of selling one of the most promising footballers in the country, as well as a couple of his other key players, he should still feel confident that he can assemble a squad capable of challenging for promotion next season.

Despite being set to lose important players, Leeds still have a strong squad for the Championship that can compete at the top end of the division with the right signings.

Leeds are yet to confirm a new signing this summer, although Joe Rodon is set to join from Spurs around the same time they land Gray, and further additions should follow, especially once they are finished with their outgoings.

It would be a real surprise to see Farke depart this summer, but it is not a surprise that he is frustrated by the current situation at Elland Road surrounding a top talent in Gray. The addition of Rodon, though, would undoubtedly be a sweetener for the German given his importance to Leeds last season.
