Leeds fans comments after signing Sean Longstaff from Newcastle – Interesting reaction | OneFootball

Leeds fans have been reacting to their club at last signing Sean Longstaff.

Newcastle United selling the Geordie midfielder after Leeds United eventually offered an acceptable amount of cash.

By my reckoning it was at least the fourth offer made, with the media reporting that it is finally a £15m deal, with £12m guaranteed and £3m in future add-ons.

So how have Leeds fans taken the news?

On their return to the Premier League, is Sean Longstaff the right signing to be made ahead of the new season?

‘I don’t think Longstaff is anything like Forshaw, Forshaw was very labouring, Longstaff is industrious, hardworking and similar type to Jordan Henderson.’

‘Forshaw only played the role a couple of times and then got injured. I seem to recall him having a couple of shots and looking quite threatening – albeit his shooting was poor. Longstaff definitely appears to have a bit more composure with his shooting so it might be that he is a decent finisher but hasn’t been played in a role where he gets many shots.

Maybe a better comparison would be Scott McTominay. He looked a distinctly average ball winning type but hardly scored. He then scored a couple against us and suddenly seemed to turn into a midfielder that scores goals.’

‘A good signing. I think people are underrating his ability in passing and linking play.’

‘Maybe it’s more the timing, as for me Longstaff is a squad filler. We need a goalkeeper, striker, AMF and left winger. If, and we best had, we get those then the spotlight comes off Longstaff and we can then appreciate the overall strategy.

I guess it’s a reality check for us, in that we are no longer one of the big guns and haven’t been for many decades. That’s tough to take when I, and many of us, grew up in and sampled the Revie days.

But to be brutally honest we don’t have the pulling power of a Brighton, or even a Bournemouth, or a Palace as we were away from the top table too long. The young players we’re trying to attract were not even born when Leeds were last a force in the EPL and Europe. So, regardless of our immense, worldwide, devoted fanbase, you could justifiably say that “Were not famous anymore”.

It will take time and consistency to establish ourselves at this level. Our last jaunt in the EPL was great for one season and then we got a brutal reality check, that we are still recovering from, in terms of confidence and financially.

So yeah, for where we are right now Longstaff probably is a steady signing, but time will tell. And that’s with the proviso that we still have to sign a goalkeeper, ACM, left winger and striker, as a real bare minimum.

I’ve enjoyed watching Murphy, Gordon, and Isak and believe they are the most exciting and devastating forward line in the EPL.

It will be full sh.. if Isak gets sold, but then we’re back to the reality of football being tiered, and how challenging it is to compete with the top tier.’

‘Was highly rated once, didn’t quite make it but as a local lad he has a lot of Newcastle fans who appreciate he gives his all and gets stuck in.

A solid player to have in your squad but one who probably does benefit from being a local lad in terms of the view of Newcastle fans.

If you think of it as a Rothwell replacement at Premier League level it’s OK.

Just seems expensive given he only has one year left on his contract and someone like Xakha is available for half the fee.’

‘I’d still rather a 27 year old to a 32 year old looking for his last pay day before dotage. I really don’t think it’s expensive, 15 million for a lad with years of prem experience.’
