The League Two play-offs feature four teams who have been models of inconsistency during the 2024/25 season.
Walsall, AFC Wimbledon, Notts County and Chesterfield are the quartet chasing promotion into League One in the post-season shoot-out.
Read on as we look at the upcoming schedule before assessing which team will most likely win promotion from League Two.
Walsall’s failure to win automatic promotion will go down as one of the worst collapses in English Football League history.
They were 12 points clear at the top of the table, but a run of three wins in their final 21 games dropped them to fourth in the standings.
The Saddlers never recovered after Stoke City recalled Nathan Lowe from his loan spell, and their heartbreak could continue in the play-offs.
No side kept more clean sheets in League Two than AFC Wimbledon this season (21), and that record could stand them in good stead against Notts County.
They were successful in their only previous appearance in the play-offs, beating Accrington Stanley and Plymouth Argyle to win promotion to League One in 2015/16.
They have won five of their previous six league meetings with Notts County and will fancy their chances of progressing to the final.
Notts County’s tally of 68 goals was the sixth highest in the division, and they undoubtedly have the ability to cause Wimbledon problems.
Veteran striker David McGoldrick is a man to be feared in big games, and County will hope that he can add to his tally of 17 goals this term.
County’s previous record against their semi-final opponents is concerning, but they could edge promises to be a tight contest.
Chesterfield defeated Accrington on the final day to overhaul Salford City and Grimsby Town to snatch seventh place in League Two.
That result kept them on course to win back-to-back promotions, and it would be a brave move to back against them achieving the feat.
Manager Paul Cook has several promotion-winning campaigns on his CV, and Chesterfield are a good bet to add another to his tally.
