Lazio star Gustav Isaksen has opened his account for Denmark by putting his name on the scoresheet in the 2-2 draw against Switzerland in the UEFA Nations League.

Remo Freuler broke the deadlock for the Swiss, but Isaksen managed to draw the Scandinavians back on level terms after finding himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper thanks to a sensational through ball from Christian Eriksen who later scored himself.

Therefore, the 23-year-old was delighted to net his first international goal on his fourth cap and took the opportunity to heap praise on the Manchester United star who provided him with a sensational assist in his post-match interview (via La Lazio Siamo Noi).

For Eriksen, It’s just another day in the office, but for me, it’s wonderful to play alongside a great player like him. He can see things that defenders don’t see. He told me several times that I should make a run whenever he has the ball, because he could see those passes. For an attacker, playing alongside such a player is a true gift. I noticed that the defense wasn’t paying attention and that Eriksen spotted me. The defenders must be really angry about that goal, because it was easily avoidable.

Isaksen thus explained what his maiden goal for Denmark means for him, but reveals that his goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel was expecting more from him at the back.

It was great to score my first goal for the national team. I’m happy to be part of it and it’s a dream to be able to help the team move forward. I’m glad I made a good impact. I did what I could, I gave a lot of energy up front to my teammates and that’s the way I want to play. I spoke to Schmeichel and he thinks I could have done more on the goal we conceded. He’s right, but I’m happy that I was able to help the team on the other end of the pitch anyway.
