Lazio are reportedly finalizing their agreement with Hellas Verona for the transfer of young central defender Daniele Ghilardi.
The 22-year-old is a Fiorentina youth product who signed for Verona in 2022, but spent the last two campaigns on loan at Montova and Sampdoria. This term, he rejoined the Gialloblu squad, and has been making waves in his maiden Serie A campaign, earning 10 league appearances thus far.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the Aquile should be able to close the operation in the next few days. Lazio president Claudio Lotito shares an excellent rapport with his Verona counterpart Maurizio Setti, giving the Italian capital side the upper hand when it comes to poaching some of the best Gialloblu talents, with the latest being Tijjani Noslin.
The source adds that Ghilardi is expected to remain at the Bentegodi Stadium for the remainder of the season, before joining Marco Baroni’s ranks in the summer when he’ll try to win the manager’s favor in pre-season.
The source also reveals that Napoli were also linked with a move for the Italy U21 starlet, but this rumor was swiftly denied by Verona. Hence, it appears that Ghilardi’s has a clear path toward Rome, as further confirmations could arrive in the coming days.
