Maurizio Sarri is back in charge at Lazio, 15 months after stepping down as head coach.
The 66-year-old takes over from Marco Baroni, who guided the team to a seventh-place finish in Serie A last season, missing out on a European spot.
Sarri originally walked away from the job in March 2024 after a tough spell that saw Lazio lose five out of six matches. He didn’t hold back at the time, openly slamming the club’s transfer dealings before calling it quits.
Now he’s back, looking to turn things around after a disappointing campaign. His last match before resigning was a 2–1 defeat to struggling Udinese, which summed up the poor run of form that led to his exit.
During his first spell, Sarri took over in June 2021 and enjoyed some success – most notably steering Lazio to second place in 2022–23, their best league finish since they won the title back in 1999–2000.
