The summer transfer window is still a couple of months away, and there are some massively important games for Chelsea to play before then, but that hasn’t stopped the rumour mill really cranking into gear this week on the subject of the Blues’ striker needs.

The broad list of targets has been clear for a while now – some have been named for a year, others longer. But the big news this week was that Liam Delap, perhaps now favourite to be our big addition up front, has a £30m release clause in case of Ipswich’s relegation – which could be sealed this weekend.

Today, Sky Sports’ transfer guru Kaveh Solhekol offered his thoughts and insights on our plans for the window:

“As well as Delap, Chelsea are interested in forwards such as RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko (21), Lille’s Jonathan David (25) and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike (22),” he wrote in a piece on their website, expanding on his comments on their transfer show earlier in the day.

“Long-term target Victor Osimhen, who is on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, is also still being monitored, although at 26, he would be the oldest and most expensive option.”

“Good relations” with club could give Blues the edge over Premier League rivals

Chelsea face the Tractor Boys this weekend and could relegated them – but Solhekol says it’s “unrealistic” to expect the teams to talk about a potential transfer given they both still have a lot to play for.

Once things are sorted out for both sides, it seems like things should go smoothly, however:

“Chelsea have good relations with Ipswich and, as both sides have so much to play for, now is not the time to be talking about potential transfer deals.”

Given there’s likely to be enormous interest in Delap at the £30m price point, those good relations could give us an important edge.
