The Daily Mail have today confirmed what we reported exclusively yesterday through our writer Simon Phillips – that Cole Palmer has gone for a second scan on the muscle injury which ruled him out against Arsenal last weekend and threatens to disrupt his end to the season.
It’s already ruled him out from international duty with England, and even though his manager Enzo Maresca has continually insisted that it’s a minor issue, it’s not great news that a second scan is needed.
The Mail’s piece says that Chelsea are “optimistic”, but that his “lower leg issue” hasn’t been cleared up by a first investigation, and that further information is needed.

It probably should be no surprise that Palmer has finally ended up hurt. He has played a crazy 937% of Chelsea’s league minutes this season, and while he had an easy run of it before Christmas, not featuring at all in the cups, he’s now been introduced to the Conference League squad too, adding more to his workload.
Before the Arsenal game Palmer had played in a couple of matches while suffering from illness, as Maresca explained. Hopefully this break gives him plenty of time to get healthy on every level as we approach the final stretch of the season where he will have a huge role to play in helping get us into the top 5.
It’s a shame for Cole to miss the first England international break under Thomas Tuchel, but we’re sure the former Blues boss is very much counting on using him in the future, and there should be plenty more chances to show what he can do if he can recapture the form of 2024 while in the remaining games of the season for Chelsea.
